Introduction

Introduction

Introduction

A vibrant in‑person experience deserved a digital presence that was just as clear and welcoming.

This group project focused on evaluating the existing experience, identifying where users were getting lost or frustrated, and redesigning the site to feel clearer, more organized, and more aligned with the academy’s real‑world energy. The goal was to create a digital experience that supports users, redudes confusions, and better represents the quality of the academy's offerings.

As a team, we divided tasks weekly and ensured each member contributed to research, testing, and documentation. As a group, we did:

  • Drafted and finalized screening questions

  • Defined site problems, assumptions, and hypotheses

  • Designed usability test tasks and prepared tools (SUS questionnaire, rainbow sheets, test cards)

  • Moderated and observed usability testing sessions

  • Synthesized findings into a report and presentation

My solo contribution aside from group contribution include:

  • Project initiation: Proposed the project topic

  • Design execution: Built the interactive prototype in Figma to show solutions and improvements, applied existing brand color and also refreshed brand presence to better align with the academy’s energy and professionalism

  • Information Architecture: Redesigned, structured navigation and page flows

  • Quality assurance: Took ownership of missing or incomplete deliverables, redesigned the final report, to ensure professional polish and to guarantee the group met requirements.

Problem

Problem

Problem

Users are getting lost in cluttered sections and struggling to make sense of the site’s navigation and class information.

Momentum Movement Academy’s website has dense navigation, scattered class details, and a hierarchy that doesn’t guide users toward key information. This creates moments of confusion when exploring offerings or trying to book classes, and the digital experience doesn’t fully reflect the academy’s energy or clarity. These gaps highlight clear opportunities to strengthen structure, communication, and overall usability.

Goal

Goal

Create a clearer, more engaging digital experience that reflects Momentum’s offerings and supports confident class booking.

The redesign focused on strengthening brand clarity, simplifying navigation, and organizing content so users can easily understand what Momentum offers. By elevating the visual presence and restructuring the hierarchy, the goal was to create an online experience that feels aligned with the academy’s vibrant atmosphere and better supports user decision‑making and member growth.

Research

Research

Research

To understand where users were getting stuck, I conducted research to uncover how people navigate the site and what information they expect to find.

The research process combined assumptions mapping, screening questions, moderated usability sessions, and task‑based testing to identify where users experienced confusion or friction. These insights helped validate initial hypotheses, reveal new issues, and guide the direction of the redesign. The following slides break down each step of the research process and the key findings that shaped the solution.

With the research insights, I began restructuring the site and exploring early layout directions.

Using the findings from moderated testing and hypotheses, I created a refined sitemap to organize content more intentionally and simplify navigation. From there, I developed low‑fidelity wireframes to explore hierarchy, flow, and placement of key elements without visual distractions.

With the structure in place, I brought the redesign to life through a high‑fidelity prototype that refined the experience end‑to‑end.

Building on the sitemap and wireframes, I developed a high‑fidelity prototype that translated the new structure into a cohesive visual experience. The design introduced clearer navigation, more intuitive class‑booking flows, and a stronger brand presence through updated visuals and content.

Reflection

Reflection

Reflection

This project reinforced the importance of observing real user behavior and iterating with clarity, structure, and intention.

This was my first time conducting a moderated usability test, and it was very insightful to watch how a real user approached the tasks we designed. To our surprise, even tho they experienced moments of confusion and hesitation, they still managed to reach the goal. However, I realized this might have been influenced by the testing context - because the task was assigned, participants may have felt obligated to complete it. In a real-world scenario, users might have abandoned the process earlier if they encountered the same difficulties.

This project gave our team valuable experience in restructuring navigation, clarifying booking flows, and aligning visuals with the academy’s identity. One limitation was timing: we were only able to test earlier iterations, and I wish we had the opportunity to run another round of usability tests after the prototype was completed. Additional testing would have allowed us to validate whether our solutions truly improved booking clarity, navigation flow, and user trust.

In the end, this project taught me that design is never truly finished - it’s a continuous cycle of testing, learning, and refining to better meet user needs.
